THE HEADSHOT TRUCK IS A JOKE
Does Chicago have a headshot truck? The answer to that is a resounding NO! Do you know why Chicago doesn't have one? A great product or service does one thing. It solves problem. The only problem that the headshot truck solves is a marketing problem. It is one of the best marketing schemes I've ever seen in this industry. The idea has been covered over and over by every major media outlet in the country. It's been touted as revolutionary. What's next the headshot bicycle? The headshot porta-potty?
I can't think of a worse place to try and photograph someone than the back of a truck. Maybe if I tried really hard I could come up with some really dumb ideas like a cardboard box, or boiler room, but the back of a truck would be really high on the list. When I go on location for corporate headshots I often find myself working in spaces that are less than ideal, but typically I like to have about 15' square area to work in. That allows for ample working distances from lights and backgrounds etc. I couldn't imagine working in such a confined space. Back to my point about all great products and service solving problems, I can only imagine this would create problems. I hope the truck has amazing AC and I hope you're not claustrophobic. I hope you like your face looking fat too, because being that close to the subject is bound to create some weird distortion.
THE HEADSHOT EXPERIENCE
I think that the 312 Elements studio headshot experience far outweighs the inconvenience of having to travel to get here. I have an amazing space in the hottest neighborhood in town and I'm conveniently located just off the expressway. I can't help but wonder, what do you do when you have to go to the bathroom on the headshot truck? It's not important, right? I'm trying really hard to find a reason to get my headshot taken in the back of a truck, but I just can't think of any.
Let's say that it's an insurmountable inconvenience for you to travel to my location, I can come to you. That's right, I'll setup a headshot studio in your office. That's got to be better than being photographed in the back of a creepy truck right? It's my preference to photograph you in my studio, and it's usually more cost effective, but if the allure of a headshot truck is that it comes to you, I can totally do that too. Let's setup an appointment for me to come photograph you and your staff at your office. We can even use your well decorated space as an out of focus background.
